Love birds ... Charles Chipanga and sweetheart Namatai Mubariki
01/03/10
TWO members of Oliver Mtukudzi’s Black Spirits band will tie the knot in May, New Zimbabwe.com can reveal.
Marimba player Charles Chipanga and backing vocalist Namatai Mubariki have told Mtukudzi they are in love, and the iconic singer has given them his blessings.
His manager Sam Mataure said: “Charles and Namatai are adults and there is nothing in their contracts which says they can’t get married.
“The whole band is delighted for them and we wish them the best.”
The couple’s affair has been one of the best kept secrets in showbiz. They are believed to have been dating for at least two years.
Namatai was one of the survivors when Mtukudzi dropped six band members three years ago, at the same time recruiting marimba prodigy, Chipanga.
The couple will appear together on stage with Mtukudzi in the United Kingdom next month for a blockbuster gig featuring South Africa’s Ringo Madlingozi and Congolese rhumba star, Awilo Longomba.
Mtukudzi and Ringo are expected to perform a duet of their hit song, Into Yam, which they recorded together in 2001.
